Hi guys! Sooo, I did it! I dyed my hair bright copper. I’ve been thinking about dyeing my hair copper for a while now and I finally did it so I thought why not share the process with you guys. So if you wanna know how I got my hair from pale blonde to this fiery copper color then keep on reading!
Like I already said I was thinking about dyeing my hair copper for a while now but I didn’t know which dye to get so I searched and searched on the internet and looked up reviews and before and afters. I had a specific shade of copper in mind and I couldn’t find anything! I wanted a bright red based copper but all I could find were blonde based or they were too dark, too red, or not bright enough. I’ve dyed my hair copper some years ago and I did like how that turned out, but that was a blonde based. Because I couldn’t find anything else I did go with the same hair dye, which is the L’Oreal Feria Preference in the shade 7.40 Mango Intense Copper.
This is what the box looks like. It looks like a nice bright copper color.
Here you can see it a bit better. Although I did use it in the past it does look a bit different. I can’t really remember that the box said Intense copper RED. Maybe they changed it from being a blonde base to a red base? At least that is what I hoped for. The color on the box still looks the same so I don’t really know what to expect. My hair color now is like a really pale blonde so I hope that it would come out like the color on the box as I have a nice blank canvas.
In the box you will find gloves, the dye, the developer, conditioner treatment, but also a new thing, a color extender which you need to use 6 weeks after you’ve dyed it to make it nice and bright again. Never seen a box dye do that so I’m pretty curious if that works.
This is what my hair looked like before (this is just a random photo I’ve picked so you can see my current hair state). Like you can see it’s a really pale blonde, my roots are a bit darker blonde.
When I dye my hair I always use a bowl and brush, I don’t like using the tube itself. I poured the developer in the bowl first and then I opened up the dye which was in liquid form instead of a cream. Me and my stupid head decided to sniff the bottle, I don’t even know why I did that but I was curious about the smell. I will NEVER do that again! WOW it felt like my nose hairs were burned alive!! So after my silly action I also poured that into the bowl and started mixing it. I looked like snot… It was looking like a melted purple jelly pudding. I then sectioned off my top hair and began putting it on the lower half. My hair is really thick and I wanted everything to be coated in hair dye, especially the back. Then I opened my second box and did the rest of my hair. The smell was horrible and it was burning my lungs and eyes so badly.
Then the waiting game began. It looked really bright and I was quite happy to see that It looked like it was going to be red based. Last time I used this it was way lighter and more orange instead of red. I’ve waited for half an hour and then I hopped in the shower and rinsed it, if you can call it rinsing at least. It looked like a never ending murder scene. I rinsed and I rinsed and the water was still bright red. At one point I just decided to put the conditioner in and waited for a few minutes. Again when I rinsed out the conditioner more red water was going down the drain. I’ve never worked so hard to rinse hair dye out untill the water runs “clear”. Clear my ***, LOL! It was beginning to bleed less finally so I gave up and hopped out of the shower. When I removed the towel from my head I was so happy, it was exactly what I wanted, which never have happened to me! (I’ve dyed my hair like a 100 times so that’s pretty rare for me).
The final result! This is the next day completely dry. I love it so much it’s perfect and looks exactly like the box weirdly enough. I’m really happy with the result, it’s copper, red based and bright (especially in the sun 🙂 )
That was my hair dye adventure, what do you guys think? 🙂 I hope you all enjoyed reading and I will see you guys next time!
