Hi loves! The title sounds a bit confusing maybe and a bit random, but I started crocheting a month ago and it’s actually such a fun and relaxing hobby! I’m dealing with a lot of anxiety and crocheting really helps me to relax.

I’ve been dealing with anxiety for years which is getting worse everyday. I’m also struggling with depression for a long time but I’m planning on doing a separate post on that some day.

A month ago I was looking for a birthday present for my moms 50th birthday and I don’t even know why I came up to crochet something but I did, haha! I found a really nice looking crochet pattern for a cardigan on Pinterest and I thought why not, I can do this! I’ve never crochet anything but I was up to the challenge. I went into town to buy some yarn and got started. In the beginning it was more frustrating than relaxing because I didn’t know what the pattern was saying. After a day I’ve realized that I’ve done it all wrong and needed to start all over, what a waste but ow well!

I finally understood the pattern and I finally did well, I crocheted a few hours a day because I wanted to have it done in time for my mom’s birthday. To my surprise the cardigan was done in not even 2 weeks! This is what the end result looked like and my mom was very happy with it πŸ™‚

it’s not perfect but for my first time making a cardigan without any experience I think I did well!

When I finished the cardigan I realized that crocheting had become my new hobby and I also made a beanie and some fingerless gloves.

I love the whole crocheting thing now but it’s not just the crocheting that I love. My anxiety is sky high at the moment with a lot of panic attacks. Nothing I did helped to calm me down really, I tried A LOT to get my mind off it but nothing helped. It’s a bit weird but crocheting really calms me down and get my mind off it, when I just get started I’m still shaky and on edge but after some time I really feel better which feels amazing! It’s such a weird feeling having tried so many things and that crocheting is the key haha!

I just want to say that if you suffer from anxiety that there is always something that does work, even when all your hopes are lost and you think that there is nothing that would ever help you. I’ve been looking for something that relaxes me for years but the answer is sometimes in a small corner. Of course I’m not “cured” but it helps for the times I feel really panicky. There is always hope don’t forget that! I don’t say everyone needs to start crocheting but it’s just a tip, maybe you find a new hobby too or when you go through the same things as me maybe it also helps for you. And Β the good thing with crocheting is you can do everything you want! You can make yourself the perfect cardigan or sweater that you’ve always dreamed about but never found in shops, make beanies for your family for Christmas or you can even sell your stunning creations and open an etsy shop πŸ™‚

I still have a lot of ideas that I want to make and it makes me quite excited that I can wear the things I’ve made myself.

    Wat ontzettend tof! En wat fijn dat jij hier het geduld voor hebt;p! Heel gaaf dat je nu helemaal ‘unieke’ items kunt maken:).

      Dankje! Ja dat is echt het leukste aan haken vind ik, om gewoon je eigen kleding te kunnen maken en dat je het zo gek kan maken als je het wilt, en mensen vinden het ook altijd heel leuk om iets unieks als kadootje te krijgen πŸ™‚ X

    Hi! Those creations look really great. I’ve read somewhere that activities that have repetitive actions (like crochet) help to put your brain into a state similar to meditation, which improves mindfulness and of course helps with mental health ( if you wanted to know why this works so well). I’m so glad you’ve found something to help you! Take care!

      I know quite a bit of mindfulness and I also have therapy but still this works quite well and I’m very happy that it does but it

    What an awesome blog post! I saw the title and had to read it. Crocheting looks so calming ,much like sewing. I still can’t sew …LOL
