Hi guys! Today I’m reviewing the NYX Micro Brow Pencil in the shade Taupe. I’ve heard great things about this product and some even say it’s a dupe for the Anastasia Brow Wiz. If you wanna know what my thoughts are on this brow pencil then keep on reading!
The brow products from Anastasia Beverly Hills are super popular but not the cheapest. When I saw that this one from NYX was supposed to be a dupe for the Brow Wiz I needed to check it out. Most of the time I use powders to fill in my brows, from time to time I also use a brow pomade but I just don’t really get along well with pencils. I remember the time that I did and let’s just say it didn’t end well *cough* marker brows.
This is the NYX Micro Brow pencil in the shade Taupe. My brows aren’t really dark so I always go for a Taupe shade and I must say that this shade matches perfectly!
The packaging is really slim but not a really good quality, it feels a bit like cheap plastic that raddles and wobbles but I find that some other NYX products do as well. On one side you have a spoolie brush to comb through your brows with and on the other side there is the twist up pencil with the tiniest nip ever and weirdly enough even though a lot of people say they like tiny nips I don’t really get along with it that well.
Here I swatched it on my hand. It’s a really nice light brown shade, not too dark, not too light. It’s also not a super warm brown but also not a cool toned one which never suits me, so I’m really happy with the shade. This swatch looks quite okay but believe me when I say that I struggled to get it to look like this. The pencil is rock hard and not creamy at all, it feels like you’re trying to draw on your skin with a colored drawing pencil (I know we all tried that one time in our lives). It didn’t really went on smoothly and I needed to press quite hard and go over it a couple of times.
I don’t really have a before photo (I’m sorry) but this is how it looks on my brows. It looks a bit crumbly and I still see some gaps. You would think it’s much easier to get a nice line with a pencil instead of a powder but boy was this hard! I do think that it’s because the pencil is so hard and dry that with the amount of pressure you just won’t get a nice line. It also took me super long to do my brows, I think twice the time as normal! It was not really comfortable to use unfortunately and it felt like I was microblading my eyebrows because it scratched a lot and kinda hurt as well. The other problem I found is that even though getting some pigment is hard you do use up A LOT of the product, for 1 brow I already needed to twist it up 2 times! When I was done with both brows I twisted it all down just for fun to see how much product was gone with just 1 use, let’s say I literally used up half a centimeter of product! :O I don’t understand how people rave about this, maybe I just have a bad one or it depends on which shade you have, I don’t know but I’m not impressed. I love NYX as a brand but this is not a good one in my opinion. If it was just a bit more creamy I think I would love it though! If you also have this pencil please tell me in the comments if you’ve had the same problem as me. I don’t think I will reach for this pencil a lot unfortunately.
I hope you all enjoyed reading and I will see you all next time!
